Flyline Academy, a 501(c)(3) organization, teaches fly fishing, wilderness and other practical, hands-on skills through experiential learning to Texas teen boys in foster care to prepare them for jobs and success in life after they age out of system.
•2-year, skills-based curriculum that creates healing relationship with God and Nature, builds self-esteem and better enables students to obtain vocations and security
•upon graduation, students get their own fly-fishing gear and equipment, career placement, passport, interview clothing and bank account in their name with small stipend
•progress of graduates is supported over course of decade to measure the academy’s impact
•program will also help standardize and raise bar for fly-fishing industry
Two Years of Programming:
Year 1: LEARNING YOUR SKILLS
Year 2: PRACTICING YOUR SKILLS and mentoring the new class of guides
Includes a new class of 12 students every year (24 in any given year after Year 1)
Year-round experiential learning through:
A three-week summer fly fishing Camp in Texas
Two overnight weekend workshop trips in Texas
A one-week graduation trip to Yellowstone National Park (end of the 2nd Year)
Monthly calls / meetings with students and case workers
